Gynecology surgeries

Gynecological surgeries encompass a wide range of procedures performed to diagnose, treat, or manage various conditions affecting the female reproductive system. These surgeries may be performed for medical, therapeutic, or cosmetic purposes, depending on the specific indication and patient needs.

Here's an overview of common gynecological surgeries:

  • Hysterectomy:
  • Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus and may involve removal of the cervix (total hysterectomy) or preservation of the cervix (subtotal or partial hysterectomy).
  • Indications for hysterectomy include uterine fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic organ prolapse, gynecologic cancers (such as uterine, cervical, or ovarian cancer), and chronic pelvic pain.
  • Oophorectomy:
  • Oophorectomy is the surgical removal of one or both ovaries and may be performed as part of a hysterectomy or as a separate procedure.
  • Indications for oophorectomy include ovarian cysts, benign ovarian tumors, endometriosis, ovarian cancer, or as a preventive measure in women at high risk of ovarian cancer (such as those with BRCA gene mutations).
  • Myomectomy:
  • Myomectomy is the surgical removal of uterine fibroids while preserving the uterus and fertility.
  • Myomectomy may be performed via abdominal, laparoscopic, or hysteroscopic approaches, depending on the size, number, and location of fibroids.
  • Endometrial Ablation:
  • Endometrial ablation is a minimally invasive procedure to destroy the inner lining of the uterus (endometrium) and is used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) or abnormal uterine bleeding.
  • Techniques for endometrial ablation include thermal ablation (using heat), radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation (freezing), microwave ablation, or laser ablation.
  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse Repair:
  • Pelvic organ prolapse repair involves surgical correction of pelvic organ prolapse, a condition in which the pelvic organs (such as the uterus, bladder, or rectum) descend into or protrude out of the vaginal canal.
  • Procedures for pelvic organ prolapse repair may include vaginal repairs (such as anterior or posterior colporrhaphy), uterine suspension procedures (such as sacrocolpopexy or uterosacral ligament suspension), or insertion of vaginal mesh or slings.
